ANNOUNCEMENT5th INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY AND COOPERATION CINEMA FESTIVALOF EXTREMADURAEXTREMA´doc 2009The V Festival Internacional de Cine Documental y Cooperación de Extremadura (5th International Documentary and Cooperation Cinema Festival of Extremadura) is a cultural event organized by the Association DOCUS EXTREMADURA and focused exclusively on original independent film documentaries.With this cinema event, the organisation intends to showcase the documentary genre, which though different viewpoints, offers an exhaustive analysis of reality. Thus, it is an alternative to what is shown by large TV companies and cinema distributors and is therefore a chance to see some of the most relevant independent productions in this genre. Due to the character of the association DOCUS EXTREMADURA, special emphasis will be placed on contents for children, so as to encourage their interest in this type of audiovisual material, helping to create new spectators. The idea being to increase the public’s awareness of other cultures and forms of expression, offering a small sample of the best documentary cinema currently produced. It can be highlighted that this cultural event arose as another way to enrich the cultural inventory of Extremadura and Portugal, around a project that intends to turn the Filmoteca de Extremadura (Film Library of Extremadura), the Auditorio de Cáceres (Auditorium of Cáceres) and other venues, into spaces for the international exhibition and competition of documentary productions. 1.TERMS. 1.1The fifth edition of the International Documentary and Cooperation Cinema Festival of Extremadura will be held in November 2009, in the city of Cáceres. 1.2There are no restrictions as regards subject matter and duration of the works presented. 1.3All the films must have been produced after January 1st 2006 for the Competitive Section. In the rest of the sections there are no restrictions as regards date of production. Nevertheless, preference will be given to the most recent works. 2. CATEGORIES. The festival is a continuation of the 1st Cross-border Documentary Cinema Week of Extremadura, held in 2005, incorporating an Official Competitive Section in its programme with three competing categories: -Award for documentary feature films (More than 30 minutes duration) - Award for documentary short films (Less than 30 minutes duration) - “Cross-border” award for documentaries about Extremadura, Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries. They must be produced by companies located in these areas. 2.1 The festival requires a minimum production quality in all categories, which is DV format. 2.2 Documentaries that have already been released in Extremadura are not eligible for presentation to the documentary competition phase. 2.3 The organisation of the Festival reserves the right to change any of the sections, include new sections or eliminate existing ones with relation to the work presented. 2.4 The organisation of the Festival will determine the category in which each of the selected works is included. 2.5 The works will be presented in Spanish or subtitled in English, except in the case of the Cross-border section, which will accept works either in Spanish or Portuguese. 3.PARTICIPATION 3.Participation must be formalised by filling in the form available in www.extremadoc.com and a registration number will be assigned to each participant. 3.2 Documentaries may be sent as of 1st February 2009, the deadline for admission of works will be 30th September 2009. Delivery costs will be met by the participant. 3.4 Documentaries in the postproduction stage will be accepted, as long as the participant can guarantee that the final copy will be received within the festival inscription deadline. 3.5 All DVDs will be marked “MUESTRA SIN VALOR COMERCIAL, SOLO CON FINES CULTURALES” (SAMPLE OF NO COMMERCIAL VALUE, ONLY FOR CULTURAL PURPOSES) 3.6 Please check all DVDs before sending. Any faulty DVD will be automatically disqualified from the selection process. 3.7 Works selected will not be returned and will be incorporated into the organisation’s film library. Works not selected must be collected by the author. Otherwise they will also be incorporated into the organisation’s film library. 3.8 Participation in this festival implies necessarily granting authorisation for the screening of the work by the organisation of the Festival, this will be exclusively for cultural promotion and with no charge for admission. 3.9 Inscription will require sending a copy of the film in DVD-PAL format, filling in the online inscription form, attaching photographs of the documentary, a brief biofilmography of the director as well as a photocopy of his/her ID card, sent to: FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CINE DOCUMENTAL Y COOPERACIÓN DE EXTREMADURA Apartado de correos nº 68710.080 CÁCERES – ESPAÑA (SPAIN) The deadline for sending in works is September 30th 2009. 4. SELECTION PROCESS 4.1 Participants will be notified if their documentary is selected via e-mail or telephone by October 1st 2009 4.2 Participants who have not been notified by the aforementioned date should understand that their work has not been selected. 5. JURY 5.2 The jury’s decision will be final. 5.3 In addition to the awards granted by the official jury, the organisation will be entitled to grant any awards and honorary mentions it considers convenient. 6.PRIZES 6.1 The amounts given as prizes will be made public before the closure of the deadline for inscription. 6.2 The organisation will not be responsible for any taxation on these prizes, which will be payable by the beneficiary of the award. 6.3 Participants grant the organisation authorisation to use extracts of the films (3 min. maximum) as well as any promotional material handed over (press dossier, posters, photos, etc) for dissemination in any media form, either nationally or internationally (TV, Press and internet) with the purpose of promoting the Festival. 6.4 The documentaries may also be awarded by granting them broadcasting rights in an autonomous community television channel. 7.ADDITIONAL CLAUSES 7.1 Participation in the Festival Internacional de Cine Documental de Extremadura (International Documentary and Cooperation Cinema Festival of Extremadura) implies the acceptance of all the terms set out in this document. |
