EXTREMA’doc 09

After several years’ of work in the DOCUS EXTREMADURA Association, we have reached the 5th edition of the Festival, consolidating its European and international character.  This year we will be screening documentaries received from all five continents, of which we can highlight countries as significant as Germany, France or Poland, in addition to an important participation of our neighbour Portugal.

Thus, EXTREMADOC contributes to the efforts of CÁCERES as a CANDIDATE TO BECOME EUROPEAN CULTURE CAPITAL IN 2016, from the official sections, the informative sections and with multiple parallel activities.

With the same objective of divulging and promoting the documentary genre as a vehicle for the transmission of values and critical analysis of reality, this year there is a special emphasis on COOPERATION in its widest sense: cooperation for development, cooperation between nations, European cooperation. In these times of crisis, values such as solidarity and joint effort are the ones that can show us the way to a more sustainable and environmentally respectful economy as well as create employment.

This year we render tribute to BASILIO MARTIN PATINO, a pioneer, among other things, of signature documentaries, works expressing personal and daring points of view, which are mostly shown and programmed in minority circuits, to which the general public usually has no access.

The 5º Festival Internacional de Cine Documental de Extremadura (5th International Documentary Cinema Festival in Extremadura), Extrema´doc 09 will be held on November 16th to 27th 2009, in the city of Cáceres. Due to the association’s character, contents for children and young people will be especially highlighted, to encourage their interest in this type of audiovisual genre, thus helping to create new spectators.
